Abstract

This research examined the significance of value education in promoting social and emotional learning (SEL) within secondary schools in Marcos. The objective was to analyze how educators incorporate values education into their instructional methods and the obstacles they encounter in this process. Employing a qualitative research approach, data was collected through semi-structured interviews with teachers from three secondary institutions in Marcos. Thematic analysis indicated that values such as empathy, respect, responsibility, and kindness play a crucial role in enhancing students’ emotional regulation, self-awareness, and interpersonal skills. Nevertheless, educators reported various challenges in executing values education, including limited time, inadequate resources, and lack of training in SEL techniques. Despite these challenges, teachers exhibited flexibility and dedication, discovering innovative methods to weave values education into their curricula. The results imply that while values education is essential for the emotional and social growth of students, schools must offer increased support, resources, and professional development to improve the efficacy of SEL initiatives. This research adds to the expanding literature on SEL, highlighting its critical role in developing well-rounded students who are prepared to handle the complexities of contemporary society.
